Spirituality Within a Twelve Step Framework
The staff team of Bosence Farm Community has discussed a common view of Spirituality, based on a Twelve Step Model.
Historically, the Twelve Step fellowships were created out of a desire by the founding members to find a recovery from their own alcoholism. They used a Christian ideal, as it was their experience. However, they very quickly discovered that they wanted to reach out to all people affected by alcoholism, some of whom either had no religious foundation or were of other faiths.
Their own experience had given them the knowledge that to get a meaningful recovery they needed a God of their understanding in their lives.
The staff team agree with the following statement.
Bosence Farm Community adheres to a Twelve Step Model that:
- Works with all people who are willing to work their recovery within a spiritual framework, based on the principles of Honesty, Open-mindedness, and Willingness
- Steadfastly supports the right of the individual to choose the ‘God of their understanding’ or higher power, as it is often called, regardless of whether this is understood as a Deity or not, or set of values and ethics
- Supports people to find a spiritual awareness of their own, helping it to run deep enough to be of use in on-going recovery
.
The staff team is proud of it ability to work with diverse culture.
