How to become a resident
If you feel you might like to come to Bosence or you have concerns about somebody else the best way to start the process is either to pick up the phone or send us an email.
We will be happy to discuss needs to see if we can help. We may also be able to sign post to other services.
We may then book a time to do a telephone referral. This takes at least 20 minutes. It’s helpful to make this call with the support of a named key worker or advocate.
We will then write to you confirming the date that you made the referral and asking that we can have contact with any advocates, key workers or probation as appropriate. We will include with this letter a Medical Risk Assessment for you to take to your Medical Practitioner.
We are not direct access and it will take time to gather the supporting information to go with you application. We ask you to call in every Tuesday afternoon to keep us informed as to your progress and to share with you how the application is going and our vacancy situation.
When we have a vacancy and all the information, the next step is an on site visit and assessment. We hold assessments on Tuesdays and invite individuals to come to us, meet the peer group, join us for lunch and have a look round. There is also a formal interview led by a member of staff. This is your opportunity to see where you may be living and ask as many questions as you’d like.
At midday the following day you will call in to let us know if you would like the place here and get feed back on how the assessment went. Very occasionally we may sign post to other services at this stage.
In Take for new residents will be the following Tuesday at midday.
On the day you arrive
We ask that you get here at midday – we can collect you from the local station.
When you arrive we will test you for substances and alcohol – all new residents must be clean on arrival. We will show you to your room where a member of staff will help you unpack and check you bags for substances and alcohol. We do not accept any illegal drugs or any alcohol onto our premises.
There is a thorough induction process which happens over the first few days and you will be helped through all your orientation by an appointed peer or ‘buddy’. You will sign a licence agreement and be given a hand book and timetable. These can be provided in various formats so if you need specialist paperwork or audio, please let us know as soon as you can.
You will be appointed a key worker within the first 24 hours.
From day one you will be joining in all the activities, groups, meals and key work. You will soon be on the rota to get involved in all household chores and duties that keep the place going!
